Farḍ (Arabic: فرض) in Islam is a religious duty commanded by Allah s.w.t. The word is used in Urdu, Persian, Pashto, Turkish (spelt farz), Malay (spelt fardu or fardhu) in the same meaning.
Fard or its synonym wājib (واجب) is one of the five types of ahkam (أحكام) into which fiqh categorises acts of every Muslim.
